Typical New Mexico spring weather… and a bit with a wildfire: NOT what people want, but it happened anyway.

Today, in addition to unfortunately typical dust-season weather (it’s what New Mexico has instead of spring), we also had… a wildfire less than a mile from our house. Had to evacuate for a few hours. (Paul is still out, looking for electric poles that may have been damaged by either the fire or the wind. The air is so dry that if a line comes down, it’ll start another fire.)

The cats — all seven of ’em, including Stony (a.k.a. “Narrow Cat”), whom we’re cat-sitting until sometime next week — did not like this at all, but I’m sure that with plenty of kitty treats (especially valerian mousies — so much better and stinkier than catnip mousies), they’ll eventually forgive us for putting them in their kitty crates and moving them around.

About Thomas Weaver

For several years, I’ve been putting my uncanny knack for grammar and punctuation, along with an eclectic mental collection of facts, to good use as a Wielder of the Red Pen of Doom (editor). I'm physically disabled, and I currently live with my smugly good-looking twin Paul, who writes military science fiction and refuses to talk about his military service because he can’t. Sometimes Paul and I collaborate on stories, and sometimes I just edit whatever he writes. It's worked out rather well so far. My list of non-writing-related jobs from the past includes librarian, art model, high school teacher, science lab gofer… Although I have no spouse or offspring to tell you about, I do have eight cats. I currently spend my time blogging, reading, editing, and fending off cats who like my desk better than my twin’s.

Glad you’re all ok. I actually have firsthand experience in wrangling tons of cats into tons of carriers. It was never pretty. Pretty sure I was more traumatized than they were, for longer. 🙂

  2. Glad you and your furry friends are all okay!

It was 27F yesterday and we got 3 inches of snow. This makes me feel a little better about that!
